Timeless Turquoise

It comes as no surprise that Turquoise has been chosen as the 2010 color of the year.  It has the calming attributes of azure and the fresh, crisp and clean aspects of emerald green. Turquoise comes in many shades including blue-green, sea-green, greenish-blue, Mediterranean blue and bright blue.

When I think of Turquoise I think of warm Caribbean waters so clear can you see the brightly colored fish swimming below. It is a healing color as well . I recently read a forum post,  from Whitehorse Woman,  that was talking about the spiritual and healing properties of turquoise as it relates to the stone. It said, “The ones with the black lines in them are called Navajo turquoise and helps you to stay in a place of love and connectedness with others. By doing this it can make you feel at “home” no matter where you are. Turquoise keeps one in the feeling of unconditional love and connection to all that is.”

The feeling of “connectedness” is why Turquoise has been a favorite accent color to use when designing the interiors and furnishings of a home. It is pleasant and inviting and studies show that Turquoise is a color that most people respond to positively to. It flows nicely with any color in the spectrum because it has both warm and cool undertones. Turquoise gives neutrals and browns a burst of excitement. It is a harmonizing addition to reds and pinks. Turquoise also lends itself to an oceanic look when paired with any shade of green and this year you can even see it with the current rage, yellow green.

So, the next time you find yourself in a decorating dilemma involving color….why not try a little Turquoise? For more interior design solutions contact The Tamarind Group at 850-424-3537 or submit your question or comment below.
